The Supreme Council for Scotland of the 33° and Last Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite (A & ASR) was established in the year 1846 with Dr. Charles Morison being its first Supreme Grand Commander. Its motto is Deus Meumque Jus which means, God and my Right.

The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, commonly known as simply the Scottish Rite, is one of several Rites of Freemasonry. A Rite is a progressive series of degrees conferred by various Masonic organizations or bodies, each of which operates under the control of its own central authority.

The Supreme Council for Scotland is in amity with a number of other Scottish, English and Irish Orders practiced in the Caribbean. eg.

The Grand Lodge of Scotland                     Supreme Grand Royal Arch Chapter

The Great Priory of Scotland                      The Grand Imperial Council of Scotland

The Royal Order of Scotland

The Supreme Council for Scotland of the 33° and last degree A & ASR, oversees Thirty Degrees of the Scottish Rite. Today, only five of these degrees are regularly worked, and these are the 18˚ Rose Croix; 30˚ Knight Kadosh, 31˚, 32˚ and 33˚.

The authority of Grand Lodges governing the first three Symbolic Degrees (Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft and Master Mason), are recognized by Supreme Council to the extent that no one is admitted to the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite unless previously made a Master Mason in a regularly constituted Craft Lodge.

The 4th. to 14th. degrees of the A & ASR are termed Lodges of Perfection while the 15th. and 16th. degrees are Councils of Princess of Jerusalem, These degrees are practiced in some jurisdictions. It is not necessary to be a member of these orders, however, before being admitted to the 18th. Degree, lectures on the 1st to 17th Degree are given to the candidates.

The Eighteenth Degree, termed the Rose Croix Degree, emphasizes that life and its strength come from God. The rose signifies the dawn and the cross is a sacred symbol of antiquity in many cultures. One is also taught to be tolerant of other’s errors and faults.

Again the 19th to 29th Degrees are practiced in some jurisdictions and before being admitted to the 30th Degree, lectures on the 19th to 29th. are given to the candidates.

In the 30th. Degree, candidates are created and admitted members of the Sovereign Council of Knights Kadosh. The lesson of this degree is to be true to ourselves, to stand for what is right and to be just in our lives today with a belief in God, country and oneself.

The 31st. to 33rd. Degrees are more specialist degrees, limited in the number of members.
